About the Event

The death of Jennifer Laude occurred on October 11, 2014, in Olongapo, Philippines, when the 26-year-old Filipina trans woman was killed by 19-year-old Private First Class US Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton. On September 7, 2020, President Rodrigo Duterte granted an absolute pardon to Pemberton, which was justified by his spokesman Harry Roque, who was once a legal counsel for the Laude family. The pardon, which was condemned by the Laude family sparked outrage in the LGBTQAI+ community.
